GALLERY II - ACRYLIC PAINTINGS.
I have always been drawn to the dynamism of
Jackson Pollock's drip style and its evocation of velocity and spontaneous
action. However, while I may use his techniques as a point of departure,
my work has always been distinctly my own. Instead of the linear
density characteristic of Pollock's compositions, my early works
were more spare and focused alternately on the rhythmic interconnections
of two or three abstract figures or on the internal rhythms of a
single figure (e.g., "Fusion Series III" and "Fusion
Series IV"). Additionally, I eventually used the drip method
to create mass as a prominent compositional element out of which
the lines could move (e.g., the "Prima Vera" series).
The artist notes which accompany most of these pieces describe the
evolution of a style and, with "Glissando", a final thought
on the emotional content of abstraction.
