ART GALLERY III - PAPER COLLAGES.
In 2003 I began experimenting with collage as a means of exploring an increased emphasis upon mass and texture. Using the compositional device of a form transcending its boundary, I set up pairs of collages as an interactive unit. In this way the two pieces could alternately respond to or influence each other across the barrier of the frame. I gradually enlarged the halves of the duo into separately framed works meant to be hung as a pair, and I eventually unified the oppositions within single compositions. As with the pieces in my other two galleries, each of these works is accompanied by artist notes which provide its inspirations, here ranging from poetry, film and music to the particular character of the paper itself.
